Incomes Register´s Classification of Occupations (TK10)

The occupational group according to Incomes The occupational group according to this classification must be given with the notification of wage and salary data in the Incomes Register if the income earner is insured against occupational accidents. Users of the Incomes Register data use occupational classification data in their own processes as well. The Classification of Occupations 2010 helps find the right occupational category for the occupational titles. Note that in the TK10 classification, zeros are added after the most detailed classification level if necessary so that the code of the occupational category is five characters long. Inquiries on which occupational group to use in the Incomes Register are directed to the payer’s own occupational accident insurance company.

Incomes Register´s Classification of Occupations (TK10) is based on the national Classification of Occupations 2010. All the occupational groups of the classification are in the set of codes up to the 5-digit level. The most detailed level found in the classification is selected to the classification for each occupational code and zeros are added to the end as needed to make the code full five digits long. The TK10 classification differs from the Classification of Occupations 2010 in that the “Unknown” category as well as all occupational groups not in use in Finland are removed from it. Instructions on classifying managers and entrepreneurs: Entrepreneurs and managing directors In companies with less than five employees, the owners and managing directors are classified in the category to which the tasks are related (e.g. hairdresser, florist, taxi driver, etc.) because management in these companies cannot be anybody's principal activity. In companies with 5 to 49 employees, managers are classified in categories 12, 13 or 14. For example, a managing director in a construction company with five or more but under 50 employees is classified in category 1323 Construction managers. In companies, with 50 or more employees, managing directors are classified in category 1120 Managing directors and chief executives. Other manager titles Other manager titles (excl. supervisors and managing directors) with overall responsibility for the activities of an organisation unit are primarily classified in category 1 Managers. For example, sales managers in category 1221, hospital directors in category 1342 and chief technology officers in category 1223. Supervisors As a general rule, supervisory positions are classified in the same occupational category as the employees they supervise, with some exceptions.
